Army rule · Voice Of Command

Your officers issue Orders. A unit that receives one does one thing better until your next Command phase — and it is the officer that counts, not how many soldiers you have.

The Astra Militarum army rule is called Voice Of Command. It gives your soldiers nothing on their own: it is your Officer models that have the ability, and they are the ones who issue Orders to the units around them.

  1. During your Command phase, each Officer with the ability can issue Orders. How many, and to which units? It is written on its datasheet.
  2. For each Order, you pick one of the six Orders, then one eligible friendly unit within 6" of the Officer.
  3. The unit is under that Order until the start of your next Command phase. A unit follows only one Order at a time: a new one replaces the old.

The six Orders are called Move! Move! Move!, Fix Bayonets!, Take Aim!, First Rank, Fire! Second Rank, Fire!, Take Cover! and Duty and Honour!. Each improves one thing — movement, shooting, melee, the save — for the unit’s models.

A Battle-shocked unit cannot be given an Order, and if it becomes Battle-shocked while following one, the Order stops. What Battle-shock is, is explained on the Command page.

A worked example

  1. My Cadian Castellan is 4" from my Kasrkin. Can he give them an Order?

    If the Kasrkin are eligible for him — his datasheet says which units he can issue his Orders to — yes, during your Command phase. Look at both datasheets: his for the right to give, theirs for the right to receive.

  2. He has two Orders. Can he give both to the Kasrkin?

    He can, but it is pointless: a unit follows only one Order at a time, and the second replaces the first. Give the second to another eligible unit within 6".

  3. My Kasrkin received Take Aim! and become Battle-shocked next turn.

    The Order stops at once. And while they are Battle-shocked, no officer can give them another.

What exactly each Order does is not explained on this site yet — it is one line each, and someone at the club will show you the first time. And only Astra Militarum models gain the benefit of an Order issued to their unit.
