Space Marines

Army rule · Oath of Moment

One enemy unit, named each turn. Against that one, your Space Marines aim better than against anything else.

The Space Marines army rule is called Oath of Moment. It is not a standing bonus: it makes you name a target, and focuses your army on it.

  1. At the start of your Command phase, you choose one unit from your opponent’s army.
  2. It is your Oath of Moment target until the start of your next Command phase — so through your turn and through your opponent’s.
  3. You do it again every Command phase. This is not a once-per-battle thing: you name a target each time.

Against that unit, and against that unit only, your models with the ability can re-roll their Hit roll.

A worked example

  1. When do I choose?

At the very start of your turn, before anything has moved. You look at the table and name the enemy unit you really want gone this turn.

  2. My Intercessors shoot at it. What changes?

The Bolt Rifle has A 2 and BS 3+: ten Intercessors roll 20 dice, and every 1 or 2 is a miss. Here, you can re-roll those dice.

  3. And against the other enemy units?

Nothing changes. The Hit roll is made as usual. The ability only works against the target you named.

Only models that have the Oath of Moment ability get this. It is not “the whole army” because the army is Space Marines.
